The Nationals have leaned heavily on All-Star MacKenzie Gore, who entered play tied with Cristopher Sanchez for the sixth-most strikeouts in the National League, this season. But after experiencing soreness this past week, the Nationals placed Gore on the IL. It’s one of several injury-related notes from August 30.
Gore on IL
The Nationals placed MacKenzie Gore on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation. It’s retroactive to August 27.
Gore stated he didn’t feel right during his last start, which prompted an MRI. Per Gore, he’s fortunate the injury was caught early.
He’s hopeful for a return this season.
Varsho sits
The Blue Jays didn’t start Daulton Varsho on August 30, one day after he was hit by a pitch on his hand.
Manager John Schneider said Varsho was dealing with pain and swelling afterwards.
Kurtz out of lineup on August 30
Nick Kurtz did not start for the Athletics on August 30. He exited the team’s game on August 29 with oblique soreness.
An MRI didn’t reveal an oblique strain.
