It wasn’t a great day for the Mariners, as two notables were removed from their game on June 14 due to injury. Additionally, Pirates fans received a rough timeline for when Oneil Cruz may return to action.

Cruz out at least a month

Pirates general manager Ben Cherington indicated on the 14th that Oneil Cruz will be out four to six weeks with the hand injury he’s currently on the IL for.

Earlier this week, Cruz was placed on the injured list with fourth and fifth metacarpal non-displaced fractures in his left hand.

Mariners take beating

The Mariners were without several players throughout the day on June 14.

Aside from Randy Arozarena, who sat with a hamstring injury, Josh Naylor had to be removed after he fouled a ball off his shin. X-rays came back negative.

The other issue was that Andres Munoz had to leave, as well. Munoz was in the game for Seattle but had to be removed due to back tightness.

IL moves

Jose Ramirez wasn’t the only player to go on the IL with a fractured hamate bone on June 14. Vinnie Pasquantino did, as well, as a fractured right hamate bone.

Padres catcher Freddy Fermin was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

The Giants placed pitcher Keaton Winn on the IL with a right elbow strain.

Rehab assignments

Cal Raleigh went 1-3 with a walk for Triple-A Tacoma.

Padres pitcher Matt Waldron went 2.1 innings (27 pitches) for Triple-A El Paso. He allowed just one hit & didn’t strike a batter out.

Angels infielder Vaughn Grissom went 2-5 with a run scored & an RBI for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Other notes

Spencer Strider will be evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister this week. Strider landed on the injured list with elbow inflammation this past weekend (h/t Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (knee) did not play on the 14th, one day after he was removed in San Francisco.

Corey Seager sat again on June 14, as his injuries are now being designated as concussion symptoms (h/t Dallas Morning News).
