Both the Cubs and Mets saw important starters make rehab starts on June 20. And, both did well statistically. However, the Diamondbacks — already down multiple arms in what’s been a tough season for Arizona — confirmed one of their top relievers is done for 2025.
Puk done for 2025
A.J. Puk‘s 2025 season is officially over.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Puk underwent elbow surgery. Puk visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache regarding reoccurring soreness that he was experiencing with a flexor strain.
Puk joins a lengthy list of Diamondbacks pitchers done for 2025. Starters Jordan Montgomery and Corbin Burnes both required UCL reconstruction surgery, while fellow reliever Justin Martinez is also done for 2025.
Additionally, Lovullo confirmed Gabriel Moreno has a fractured finger. Moreno was placed on the IL yesterday.
Soler lands on IL
The Angels placed Jorge Soler on the 10-day IL retroactive to June 18. Soler was placed on the injured list with low back inflammation.
Miley out with flexor strain
Just a few weeks after the Reds signed Wade Miley to a Major League deal, Cincinnati placed the lefty on the IL with a flexor strain.
Miley said he felt something was off earlier in the week and tried to throw through it but an MRI afterwards revealed the strain.
Rehab assignments
Sean Manaea threw 5.1 innings in Syracuse (AAA) on June 20. Manaea only threw three pitches — four-seamer, sweeper, and changeup — and struck out seven in the outing. The Mets lefty maxed out at 92 MPH.
Shota Imanaga struck out eight over 4.1 IP for Iowa (AAA). Imanaga, who topped out at 91 MPH, gave up two hits and walked two.
Rays infielder Ha-Seong Kim went 1-4 in his first four at-bats for Durham (AAA). Kim was the Bulls’ DH.
Other injury news
Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd left his start on June 20 after five innings with a left shoulder bruise.
The White Sox placed Davis Martin on the injured list with a right forearm strain.
Cam Booser (White Sox), Luke Raley (Mariners), Nathan Lukes & Nick Sandlin (Blue Jays) were activated from the injured list.
