For the most part, the Braves have been able to keep their regular lineup intact this season. However, that streak ended on May 3, as former NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. landed on the injured list. And that was just one piece of injury news from the day.
Ryan left in 1st inning
The first game of the day on May 3 saw the first injury of the day. Joe Ryan had to leave in the first inning of the Blue Jays-Twins’ finale.
Ryan was diagnosed with right elbow soreness.
Raleigh missed another game
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh did not play on May 3, the second straight game he missed. Per the team, he is dealing with right-side soreness.
Manager Dan Wilson stated before the contest that Raleigh could wind up on the injured list.
Rice dealing with hand injury
Yankees C/1B Ben Rice hit another home run on May 3, although he was not able to finish out the game against the Orioles.
Rice suffered a left hand contusion that he suffered during a pickoff attempt. Per the team, X-rays came back negative, and he is considered day-to-day.
IL placements
The Braves officially placed Ronald Acuna Jr. on the 10-day IL, one day after he left the team’s game against the Rockies. Acuna Jr. suffered a left hamstring strain.
Yusei Kikuchi, who left his start against the White Sox earlier this week, was placed on the IL with left shoulder inflammation. It is retroactive to April 30.
Padres pitcher German Marquez was placed on the 15-day IL with forearm nerve inflammation. That move is retroactive to May 2.
Lastly, Mets infielder Ronny Mauricio was placed on the IL with a left thumb fracture. Mauricio suffered that injury on May 2 against the Angels.
Rehab assignments
Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell had his rehab transferred to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Snell struck out four over four innings (55 pitches) for the Comets. The left-hander averaged 96 MPH on his fastball.
Mariners outfielder Victor Robles went 0-2 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Tacoma.
Red Sox pitcher Justin Slaten struck out two over one inning for Double-A Portland.
Angels pitcher Ryan Johnson struck out seven over 3.1 IP (60 pitches) for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga. He allowed two hits and one walk.
Blue Jays 3B/OF Addison Barger went 1-2 with a home run for Low-A Dunedin.
Tigers pitcher Troy Melton struck out two over 1.2 IP (32 pitches) for Low-A Lakeland. Melton averaged 97 MPH on his four-seamer and 95 MPH on the two-seamer.
Other news
Brewers infielder Brice Turang was scratched due to an illness.
Yandy Diaz (oblique) and Gleyber Torres (side) did not play on May 3.
