There was some injury-related news on October 5 regarding players whose seasons have already ended. Cal Raleigh and Josh Naylor, both of whom had down offensive years, both had operations done this past weekend. As for Roman Anthony, it appears he’s avoided that fate.
Anthony won’t need surgery
At least for now, it looks like Roman Anthony won’t need surgery.
Red Sox president of baseball operations Craig Breslow noted in his end-of-season press conference that it’s not believed that Anthony will need surgery. However, the club is still finding out more about the extent of the second-year outfielder’s injury.
Anthony re-injured his hand during the AL Wild Card round and suffered additional injuries.
Naylor, Raleigh each underwent surgery
The Mariners announced on October 5 that both Josh Naylor and Cal Raleigh each had surgeries after the completion of the 2026 campaign.
Raleigh underwent a left shoulder debridement operation on October 3. The switch-hitting catcher came on late to salvage the 2026 season. However, he only hit 23 home runs just one year after he set MLB highs for home runs hit by a catcher and a switch-hitter.
As for Naylor, he underwent a triangular fibrocartilage complex surgery for his right wrist. That procedure was done on the 3rd of October, as well.
Both are expected to be ready when Spring Training is tentatively scheduled to begin in February.
Other notes
Athletics pitcher Seth Johnson underwent left knee surgery (h/t MLB.com).
