After every MLB season, it would suffice to say that some, immediately upon the past year’s conclusion, ask when the following season will begin. But before the 2027 MLB season starts up, players from around the league will gear up in Spring Training. Here’s what you need to know about the exhibition season for 2027.
When do Spring Training games start?
The first Spring Training games for 2027 will take place on February 19, 2027.
This date falls in line with 2026, as games began on February 20 of that year.
As of now, all teams are scheduled to play on the 19th across both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.
Several teams are penciled in to play split-squad games, contests in which an MLB team rosters two teams of Major/Minor League players. The Diamondbacks, Marlins, and Blue Jays will play multiple games that day.
Additionally, the Red Sox will play their annual exhibition game against Northeastern University at JetBlue Park. Northeastern’s campus is located just blocks away from Fenway Park in Boston.
Per usual, clubs will be split between the Grapefruit League (Florida) and Cactus League (Arizona)
How long will Spring Training run?
Games will be contested from February 19, 2027, through March 23, 2027.
Most teams will wrap up their schedule before the 23rd, as only five games are scheduled for the final day. The 23rd is also the last scheduled day of the exhibition before the standalone Opening Night game on March 24.
When is the 2027 MLB Spring Breakout?
The 2027 edition of the Spring Breakout will be held in early March.
New for 2027, the Spring Breakout will include a multi-game tournament, rather than the one standalone game (two in rare circumstances, to even out the schedule) played from 2024 through 2026.
Exact information will be revealed as we get closer to the spring. However, some information about scheduling is known. The Texas Rangers, for example, announced that their prospects will play the Royals Prospects team on March 8.
When do teams report for Spring Training?
Players traditionally report to Spring Training in early February.
Be mindful, however, that all of this information is very much subject to change. This is due to the pending lockout once the 2022-26 CBA expires in December. Even if no games get wiped off the regular-season schedule, it is possible that Spring Training is delayed.
During the 2021-22 lockout, that was indeed the case.
It is important to note, though, that Minor League players will still report to camp no matter what. The 2027 Minor League Baseball schedule will be unaffected by any labor dispute.
