Much like on the 28th, April 29 was another exhausting day on the injury front. Yusei Kikuchi and Brandon Nimmo both left their respective games due to injuries, while Garrett Crochet is now on the IL. Plus, updates on rehab assignments for Gerrit Cole, Jackson Chourio, and Jared Jones.

Kikuchi removed early

Angels pitcher Yusei Kikuchi was removed from the team’s game against the White Sox on the 29th. Kikuchi came out for his pre-inning warmup, threw one pitch, and then looked at the dugout before team management came out to evaluate and take him out.

Afterwards, the team declared that he was diagnosed with left shoulder tightness.

Nimmo dealing with hamstring injury

Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo was removed from Texas’ game against the Yankees due to hamstring tightness.

Nimmo stated after the game that he’s dealt with this before, and it was more of a precautionary move than anything. He expects to be in the lineup on May 1.

IL placements

After what has been an up-and-down month for Garrett Crochet, the Red Sox ace will end April on the injured list. Crochet was placed on the IL with left shoulder inflammation.

The Tigers placed both players who suffered injuries on the 28th on the IL. Javier Baez was diagnosed with an ankle sprain, while Casey Mize is dealing with a right adductor strain.

Brewers reliever Angel Zerpa was placed on the injured list with left forearm tightness.

White Sox outfielder Everson Pereira was placed on the IL with a right pectoral strain.

Thanks to an illness, Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers was also placed on the IL.

Rehab assignments

Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio started his rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville. Chourio went 0-1 with two walks for the Sounds. Andrew Vaughn also played in that contest and went 1-3.

Gerrit Cole made a rehab start for Double-A Somerset on the 29th. Cole, who sat 94-95 MPH with the fastball, struck out three and gave up three hits (three ERA) over 5.2 IP (60 pitches). He surrendered two home runs.

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe went 2-4 for Somerset in the contest.

Braves shortstop Ha-Seong Kim went 1-2 with Double-A Columbus.

Pirates pitcher Jared Jones struck out five over three scoreless innings (41 pitches) for Low-A Bradenton. Jones maxed out at 101 MPH during that start and averaged 99 MPH.

Angels reliever Ben Joyce struck out over one scoreless inning for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga.
