Two NL Central shortstops have been dealt blows. Konnor Griffin was placed on the injured list, while the Reds will await an MRI on Elly De La Cruz’s hamstring after he was removed on May 31.

De La Cruz dealing with hamstring injury

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz was removed on May 31 with hamstring tightness.

De La Cruz stated in Spanish after the game that he doesn’t think it’s too bad. However, he will get an MRI for further evaluation.

Realmuto dealing with wrist contusion

Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was removed after the third inning after he was hit by a pitch.

After the game, it was revealed that X-rays came back negative. He didn’t suffer structural damage.

IL moves

The Pirates placed infielder Konnor Griffin on the 10-day IL with a right elbow strain.

Rays reliever Craig Kimbrel was placed on the 15-day IL with a right wrist strain.

The Twins placed Bailey Ober on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation.

Brewers pitcher Angel Zerpa (UCL reconstruction) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres went 1-2 with a walk for Triple-A Toledo.

Matthew Boyd struck out two and gave up four hits across four innings (63 pitches) for Triple-A Iowa. Boyd averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 95 OVR.

Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford went 0-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Round Rock.

The Blue Jays had two rehabbing pitchers in two different locations. Max Scherzer struck out four over three scoreless innings (41 pitches) for Triple-A Buffalo. As for Shane Bieber, he gave up six hits and struck out two over 2.1 IP for Low-A Dunedin.

Scherzer averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH. Bieber, meanwhile, averaged 92 MPH and hit 93 as a high.

Other notes

Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez (right wrist contusion) was removed from the game after he was hit by a ball thrown from the stands.

Maikel Garcia (hamstring strain), Ceddanne Rafaela (back), and Angel Martinez (foot) did not play on the 31st.
