The 2026 season was a wash for Hunter Greene. And the 2027 season looks to be the same, as the right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this week. Plus, an update on Jacob deGrom, who was pulled from his start on August 13.
deGrom removed early
Not great news out of Anaheim, as the Rangers pulled pitcher Jacob deGrom after only two innings against the Los Angeles Angels.
deGrom was removed due to right triceps fatigue.
Greene out through 2027
Per the Cincinnati Enquirer, Hunter Greene underwent the second UCL reconstruction procedure of his career. His last came as a Minor League years earlier.
Given the 12-to-18-month range for that surgery, Greene is likely to miss all of the 2027 season. Greene, who came back from a different elbow surgery in July, only pitched one month this season.
IL moves
Tigers outfielder James Outman was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez was placed on the 10-day IL with left hip inflammation.
The Red Sox placed pitcher Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.
Trevor McDonald (elbow) and Matt Chapman (abdomen/hernia) were transferred to the 60-day IL by the Giants.
Rehab assignments
The Rangers had two rehabbers with Triple-A Round Rock. Jack Leiter struck out three batters over 2.2 IP (48 pitches) for the Express. Leiter averaged 97 MPH and topped out at 98 MPH. Catching him was Danny Jansen, who went 1-for-3 with a strikeout.
Phillies catcher Rafael Marchan went 1-for-2 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Marcelo Mayer hit a home run with Triple-A Sacramento, in what is his first game with the Giants organization after he was traded at the deadline.
Yankees starter Carlos Rodon struck out seven over 4.2 IP for Double-A Somerset. Rodon tossed 58 pitches for the Patriots.
Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia tossed a scoreless inning for Double-A Knoxville.
Other notes
Brewers infielder Brice Turang did not start on August 13 against the Dodgers due to right knee pain. Manager Pat Murphy noted that an MRI on Turang’s knee didn’t reveal anything serious.
Mariners outfielder Taylor Ward did not play due to right quad tightness.
