It seemed unimaginable that, heading into 2026, Edwin Diaz would not be on a potential postseason roster for the Dodgers, barring injury. As of now, Diaz is on the IL. But as manager Dave Roberts put it on September 14, there are no guarantees regarding Diaz’s status.
Updates on Dodgers’ injuries
As expected, the Dodgers did not start first baseman Freddie Freeman on September 14. Manager Dave Roberts indicated on the 13th that Freeman, who’s been nursing a knee injury of late, would get the day off against the Reds.
Kris Bubic joined the club in Cincinnati. He hasn’t been activated as of September 14. However, the left-hander will be an option for the Dodgers down the stretch. Los Angeles added him via trade in August.
Edwin Diaz, meanwhile, will be getting another rehab outing this upcoming week in Oklahoma City. Roberts was critical of Diaz, who walked three and was charged with five earned runs in his last start. He indicated that Diaz must pitch better to be an option for the club’s playoff roster.
For those wondering, Diaz’s velocity hovered around 96-97 MPH down in Triple-A.
Meyer done for 2026
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough indicated that Max Meyer‘s season is done.
Meyer was a wonder for the Marlins during their strong first-half. However, a neck injury sidelined him in July. The right-hander hasn’t pitched in a game since the 18th of July.
IL moves
The Blue Jays placed outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to September 13.
Dodgers reliever Edgardo Henriquez was placed on the 15-day IL with lower back discomfort.
Other notes
Tigers infielder Colt Keith was not in the club’s lineup against the Blue Jays due to thumb soreness.
Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (side inflammation) exited against the White Sox.
Reds infielder Matt McLain (shoulder) was not in the club’s starting lineup against the Dodgers.
Royce Lewis (shoulder) was not in the Twins’ lineup on September 14. Lewis was pulled early on the 13th with that aforementioned shoulder issue. Kaelen Culpepper (shoulder) was also out.
