Amidst a push for the playoffs, the Twins had to place Byron Buxton on the injured list thanks to a hip injury. The Pirates, also pushing to make it back to October, could get Oneil Cruz back soon. However, the Yankees are still waiting on Aaron Judge.
Still no timetable for Judge’s return
Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted on July 29 that the club has not yet determined when Aaron Judge will receive a new follow-up exam for his fractured rib.
So, the waiting game continues on the reigning AL MVP.
Kurtz suffered forearm contusion
Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz was removed from the team’s game against the Red Sox with a forearm contusion.
The injury was sustained when Kurtz was hit by a pitch.
Cruz cleared for baseball activities
Pirates fans received very good news on the 29th.
Team director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk indicated that Oneil Cruz, who was placed on the IL in June with a fractured hand, has been cleared for all baseball activities (h/t MLB.com).
He won’t be eligible for activation until after the Trade Deadline, as Cruz is presently on the 60-day IL.
IL moves
Twins outfielder Byron Buxton was placed on the 10-day IL with a right hip impingement. The move came one day after he was removed early due to renewed hip soreness.
The Royals placed first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino on the 10-day IL with right wrist soreness.
Rangers catcher Danny Jansen was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Rehab assignments
Reds infielder Matt McLain went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Louisville.
Cubs reliever Hoby Milner tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Iowa.
Corey Seager went 0-3 with a strikeout for Double-A Frisco.
Brewers pitcher DL Hall struck out three over one inning for High-A Wisconsin.
Dodgers starter Blake Snell struck out nine over four scoreless innings (60 pitches) for Low-A Ontario.
Other notes
Giants utilityman Casey Schmitt will undergo left knee surgery, per manager Tony Vitello.
Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber (illness) was out again on July 29. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (hamstring) was also out, as well.
