On a light MLB day and with no full-season Minor League games, much of the injury news was focused on scheduled rehab assignments. Plus, the Yankees provided an update on injured designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton.
Stanton yet to resume running
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Giancarlo Stanton is not ready to run on a field yet and has also yet to resume his running program. This news comes after Stanton, who resumed some workouts late in June, suffered a setback in his calf earlier last month.
Boone is adamant that Stanton, who has played 24 games this season, will return in 2026.
Murakami starting rehab assignment
The Charlotte Knights announced on the 6th that White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami will join Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate this week.
Murakami has not played in a game since late May after he suffered a hamstring strain.
Pena joining rehabbing players in Triple-A
The Astros are sending shortstop Jeremy Pena on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land starting on July 7. He’ll be joined by Ronel Blanco and Lance McCullers Jr., who are also expected to pitch in said game (h/t MLB.com).
Pena, out with a calf strain, last played on June 28.
IL moves
One day after he was removed following a comebacker off his forearm, Braves pitcher Martin Perez was placed on the IL with a left forearm contusion.
Cardinals pitcher Max Rajcic was placed on the 15-day IL with right elbow soreness.
James McCann (Diamondbacks), Evan Phillips (Dodgers), Patrick Sandoval (Red Sox), and Braden Shewmake (Astros) were activated off the injured list.
Other notes
Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino is expected to join Triple-A Omaha for a rehab assignment starting on July 7, per the team.
Tommy Edman (ankle) was not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup.
