For the first time in well over a week, the Dodgers were able to get back in the win column on August 8. That was one of the highlights on August 8, a day that also saw Jackson Jobe return to a big-league mound.
Dodgers break losing streak
One day after the Dodgers nearly snapped their losing skid, Los Angeles did so in extra-innings on August 8.
The Dodgers and Diamondbacks were scoreless after seven, as starters Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Brandon Pfaadt didn’t concede any runs. In Pfaadt’s case, he allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings.
But in the eighth, Kyle Tucker hit his 11th home run of the year to make it a 1-0 contest. But in the ninth, Edwin Diaz blew a shot at a save. A day after he conceded a two-run, game-winning home run to Ryan Waldschmidt, Diaz allowed back-to-back triples to allow the Diamondbacks to tie it.
Shohei Ohtani drove in the game-winning run in the 10th, off a hard groundball that first baseman Tim Tawa couldn’t reel in.
Tigers shut out Giants
The Tigers won 8-0 over the Giants in convincing fashion, and returning pitcher Jackson Jobe played a key role.
Jobe, who made his first 2026 MLB start after a month-long rehab stint, hit the triple-digits against the very first batter he faced and didn’t concede much against the Giants. The right-hander struck out four over five scoreless innings, earning his first big-league win in over a year. Detroit’s bullpen pitched four shutout innings afterwards, and the Giants had just two hits overall.
Max Clark and Javier Baez each had two hits. Dillon Dingler, by the way, picked up his 80th RBI of 2026 in the game.
Cole, Yankees defeat Braves
It was the rookies who saved the day on Yankees’ Old-Timers Day, as Spencer Jones & George Lombard Jr. helped play a key role in the club’s 5-4 win over the Braves.
Down by one in the fifth, Spencer Jones tallied a game-tying triple that drove in Lombard Jr. That made it a 2-2 game. Later on, a balk while Austin Wells was at the plate scored Jones.
And in the seventh, George Lombard Jr. hit a solo shot to make it a 4-2 game. That, coupled with a Ben Rice home run in the eighth, helped the Yankees escape with a win.
Gerrit Cole struck out nine over seven innings and picked up the win.
White Sox win 60th game
The White Sox hit Colin Holderman with three earned runs without the reliever holding an out. That helped the club win 6-3, giving Chicago their 60th win of the year.
Munetaka Murakami hit his 26th home run of the year in the win.
Athletics defeat Red Sox
In a battle of rookie left-handers, it was Gage Jump who came out on top, as the Athletics defeated the Red Sox 7-3. It snapped Boston’s winning streak.
Jump struck out 11 over six innings for the A’s. The Athletics’ offense put four on Jake Bennett‘s line. Additionally, Tyler Soderstrom and Henry Bolte both hit home runs off Raymond Burgos.
