The Tigers may have traded away their ace before the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline. But that hasn’t mattered for the club, as the Tigers won another game on August 11 and have inched closer to an American League playoff spot.
Cubs outpace Nationals
The Cubs defeated the Nationals 8-6 on the road to take their 70th win of the season.
Washington jumped out to a two-run lead in the first thanks to a CJ Abrams two-run home run, his 29th of the season. But the Cubs chipped away, as the club scored one in the second, one in the third thanks to a Pete Crow-Armstrong home run, and three in the fourth.
Seiya Suzuki, Alex Bregman, and Nico Hoerner each had two hits.
Jared Young and Dylan Crews each hit their 10th home runs of 2026 for the Nationals in the loss.
Tigers close in on Wild Card spot
Detroit’s second-half surge continued on August 11, as the Tigers toppled the Guardians 6-4 to move to 59-60 on the season.
The Tigers put six runs (five earned) on Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee. Kevin McGonigle played a major role in that, as he picked up two hits and drove in three.
With the Rangers’ loss to the Angels, the Tigers are now a half-game behind the Rangers for the final AL Wild Card spot.
Cardinals shut out Phillies
Both Andre Pallante and Cristopher Sanchez tossed six scoreless innings on August 11. But two late runs made the difference for the Cardinals.
In the seventh inning, a Masyn Winn single made it 1-0 St. Louis. One inning later, Everson Pereira made a difference with his new club via a solo home run.
St. Louis is now back to .500, as the club is 60-60 through 120 games.
Padres win big against Brewers
The Diamondbacks lost, and the Padres won, meaning that for now, the two clubs have the same record at 64-57.
San Diego poured on five in the second. Jake Cronenworth opened the scoring with an RBI single, while Luis Rengifo tagged his old team with a grand slam. Home runs from Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Campusano further put the game out of reach.
Walker Buehler allowed one run over six innings.
Martinez works CG for Rays
The Rays put up 12 on the Athletics, and Nick Martinez went the full nine in a 12-4 win.
Junior Caminero hit his 35th home run of the season. But perhaps the most notable story out of the game came from Taylor Walls. Walls didn’t hit a single home run all season before the 11th. He hit two in this contest.
Martinez struck out five and allowed four runs.
