It’s been a busy past few days for the Giants on the waiver wire. On the 3rd, the Giants claimed Brett Harris. And on September 4, San Francisco claimed reliever Joel Kuhnel. That was one of several transactions made across the league on the 4th.

Peterson up with Cleveland

Guardians pitcher Austin Peterson was called up by Cleveland. Whenever he makes his first appearance with the club will be Peterson’s Major League debut.

Peterson was a ninth-round pick out of UConn back in 2022, a school well-known for developing pitchers. The 26-year-old was selected to the 40-man roster back in November and pitched well overall in Triple-A this season. With Columbus, the 26-year-old struck out 102 over 95 innings.

He’ll feature two mid-90s fastballs, a sinker and a four-seamer, as well as a cutter, a changeup, a sweeper, and a slider.

Giants add reliever

Journeyman Joel Kuhnel has bounced around over the past year, and that continued on September 4.

Kuhnel was claimed by the San Francisco Giants from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Recalls & options

Alex Cook (Rays), Bryan King (Astros), Daniel Espino (Guardians), Troy Taylor (Mariners), and Isaac Mattson (Pirates) were recalled.

Ivan Johnson (Reds), Brandon Eisert (Pirates), Drew Romo (White Sox), Ricky Tiedemann (Blue Jays), Ryan Fernandez (Cardinals), and Logan Allen (Guardians) were optioned.

Other notes

The Rockies claimed pitcher Hayden Harris off waivers from the Braves. Harris was optioned to Triple-A.

Jack Sinclair (Nationals) and Carlos Jorge (Reds) were selected to the 40-man roster by their respective clubs.

Daz Cameron (Blue Jays), Tom Cosgrove (Nationals), and Drew Waters (Royals) were sent outright to Triple-A.

Guardians pitcher Carlos Hernandez was designated for assignment. Additionally, Diamondbacks outfielder Jorge Barrosa received the same treatment. As did Max Kranick (Nationals) and Christian Bethancourt (Pirates).
