The 2026 MLB Postseason picture is starting to get filled out. Two more clubs locked up spots on September 14. Additionally, Citi Field was host to, arguably, the most anticipated return of 2026, as Pete Alonso was back in Queens to face the Mets.
Dodgers clinch playoff spot
For the 14th straight season, the Dodgers are back in the playoffs. Los Angeles locked up a berth with a 4-1 win over the Reds.
Tarik Skubal was sensational, as he struck out nine over seven scoreless innings. Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernandez each hit home runs on a night where the Dodgers only had three hits. The other was an RBI single from Enrique Hernandez.
Elly De La Cruz launched his 27th home run in the ninth, the Reds’ lone run of the game.
So did the Yankees
The Yankees won 8-3 on a raw night in Minnesota, locking up the club’s fourth-straight postseason berth.
New York was down 2-1 heading into the eighth. Jose Caballero tied with an RBI single, Ben Rice followed it up with a two-run single, and Aaron Judge opened the game up with a three-run shot later that inning. It was Judge’s first home run since coming off the IL. Overall, it was his 18th of the year.
Josh Bell had two hits in the Twins’ loss. One was his 20th home run of the season.
Blue Jays fall to Tigers
The Yankees were actually able to clinch before the conclusion of their game versus the Twins. That’s because Detroit defeated the Blue Jays 6-5 in Toronto.
Jose Soriano tossed six no-hit innings versus the Tigers, keeping the game at 2-0 after six. But things turned in the seventh, as an RBI single from Dillon Dingler, followed by doubles from Max Clark & Spencer Torkelson, drove in four.
Toronto answered with three runs of their own in the seventh. However, the Tigers scored one run in both the eighth and ninth innings to move past the Jays.
Alonso returned to Citi Field
The Orioles won 2-1 against the Mets on the 14th, a night defined by Pete Alonso‘s return to Queens.
Alonso, drafted by the Mets and the franchise’s all-time home run leader, received a standing ovation before his first at-bat. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
Heston Kjerstad started the scoring for Baltimore with an RBI double. Gunnar Henderson‘s 23rd home run wound up being the game-winning run. As for the Mets, A.J. Ewing‘s solo home run was the lone offense on the night for the club.
White Sox win against Guardians
The White Sox avoided the Guardians passing them in the AL Central, winning 7-3 against Cleveland.
After Gavin Williams tossed five scoreless innings, the White Sox were able to score six runs in the sixth. That inning was capped off with a two-run double from Kyle Teel that made it 4-0, followed by a two-run home run from Miguel Vargas.
Sean Burke struck out four and didn’t allow an earned run through five innings in bulk relief.
