Dodgers fans were treated to yet another impressive performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto on April 14. Yamamoto was one of several pitchers who performed very well on a day that was much friendlier to the pitchers.
Yamamoto dominant against Mets
The Dodgers moved to 13-4 on the season, the best record in the Majors right now, after a 2-1 victory over the Mets on April 14.
Kyle Tucker drove in the game-winning run on a blooper off a cutter he got too late. Yet, he got enough of it to dunk it to left field and drive in Miguel Rojas.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto didn’t get the win but he was fabulous for the Dodgers. Yamamoto struck out seven over 7.2 IP and led all pitchers on the day in swings-and-misses (23).
Nolan McLean (38.9% CSW%) matched Yamamoto on the hill. McLean struck out eight over seven innings and led all pitchers in called strikes (25). Both he and Yamamoto gave up one run.
Twins move to 11-7
The Minnesota Twins became the first AL team to win 11 games this season. Minnesota shut out the Red Sox 6-0.
Byron Buxton hit two home runs for Minnesota, while Brooks Lee hit his third home run of 2026. However, the real story was Mick Abel.
Abel (34.1% Whiff%) struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings to win his first game of the year.
Blue Jays, Cardinals win in extras
Toronto defeated the Brewers 9-7 in extras. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Myles Straw drove in runs in the 10th to secure the win for the Blue Jays. Kevin Gausman (31.9% Whiff%) and Jacob Misiorowski (30% Whiff%) both pitched well, even though both gave up hard contact in the contest.
Meanwhile, in St. Louis, the Cardinals defeated the Guardians thanks to a Nathan Church sacrifice fly. Riley O’Brien picked up his second win of the year in St. Louis’ 6-5 triumph.
Angels keep Yanks quiet
The Angels defeated the Yankees 7-1. That win moved the Angels’ record to 9-9 on the year.
Los Angeles’ offense got going early. Mike Trout, Jo Adell, and Jorge Soler went back-to-back-to-back in the first inning. Former Yankee Oswald Peraza and Yoan Moncada also hit home runs for the Angels.
Reid Detmers (33.3% Whiff%) struck out nine over seven innings for the Angels.
New York’s lone run was driven in by Ben Rice, who hit a sacrifice fly as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning.
Other notes
The Diamondbacks won 4-3 over the Orioles after Arizona was able to crack through Trevor Rogers (35.4% Whiff%).
Mitchell Parker (46.2% Whiff%) struck out five over two innings and picked up the win for the Nationals against the Pirates. CJ Abrams hit his sixth home run of the year for Washington, while Brandon Lowe is up to seven for the Pirayes.
