Memorial Day 2026 saw a mostly full slate of games across Major League Baseball. It was another tough day for the Cubs, who were just recently swept by the Astros and lost to the Pirates on May 25. Speaking of the Astros, Houston’s pitching staff did something not seen since the 2024 campaign: a no-hitter.

Astros toss first no-no of 2026

Houston pitched a combined no-hitter on May 25, as three pitchers combined to keep the Texas Rangers without a hit in the 9-0 victory.

The Astros’ offense did its job, as Yordan Alvarez started the scoring off with a sac fly and then hit his 16th home run later on in the game. Christian Walker hit his 15th home run of 2026 in the contest.

Tatsuya Imai tossed six no-hit innings to start things off. Steven Okert worked the seventh, and then rookie Alimber Santa tossed two perfect innings to finish the game. It was Santa’s first-ever MLB appearance.

Cubs lost ninth straight

Pittsburgh won 2-1 over the Cubs on May 25, pushing Chicago to a nine-game losing streak.

Michael Busch hit a solo shot off Carmen Mlodzinski in the fifth, the only run for the Cubs. That tied the game, as Brandon Lowe hit a double to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the third. In the seventh, catcher Henry Davis hit a solo shot off Trent Thornton to break the tie.

The Cubs are now 3.5 games behind the Brewers for first in the NL Central. Pittsburgh remained 4.5 games back, as the Brewers won again.

Miz excellent again for Brewers

Two numbers were the takeaways from the Brewers’ 5-1 victory over the Cardinals: 12 and 57.

Twelve was the number of strikeouts for Jacob Misiorowski, who became the first MLB pitcher to 100 strikeouts this season. Misiorowski threw 57 fastballs that were 100 MPH or higher, which is becoming the norm of sorts for the young ace.

Christian Yelich hit his fourth home run of 2026 against Matthew Liberatore.

Cowser walks it off again

Yet again, Colton Cowser hit a walk-off home run, as he helped the Orioles secure a 9-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in 13 innings.

Both Shane McClanahan and Kyle Bradish, the two starters, pitched well. However, the game was tied at two after nine innings. Neither team scored in the tenth, while the two squads traded runs in the 11th and 12th.

Ex-Oriole Cedric Mullins broke a 5-5 lock in the 13th, and Tampa Bay tallied another run. But Cowser hit a two-run home run after a Jackson Holliday sac fly tied the game. Cowser hit a walk-off off Kenley Jansen on the 24th.

Nationals tee off on Bibee

Tanner Bibee surrendered five home runs against the Nationals in a 10-2 victory in favor of Washington.

James Wood hit a lead-off shot, and then Curtis Mead tallied the first of two home runs he had in the first. Jared Young, CJ Abrams, and Luis Garcia Jr. also hit homers off Bibee, who only lasted three innings.

Zack Littell struck out seven over seven in bulk relief to pick up a win.
