All eight Wild Card teams finalized their rosters on September 29, the start of the round. Garrett Crochet & Giancarlo Stanton were among those activated. Additionally, several Minor Leaguers were able to declare for free agency with the MiLB season complete.
Who’s active?
Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham are ready to return, as the two were activated off the injured list. Both worked out over the last week.
The Red Sox will have Garrett Crochet available as a bullpen option against the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Round. He hasn’t pitched in a Major League game since April 28, 2026.
Joe Musgrove will be available for the Padres. Musgrove worked in rehab assignments down in Triple-A late in the year but never pitched in the Majors amidst issues recovering after pitching. He has not pitched in the Majors this season.
Who’s not active?
As expected, Luis Arraez was not placed on the Phillies’ Wild Card Round roster. That was made clear on the 28th. Brooks Raley, also acquired at the trade deadline, is also not on it for the Phillies.
Aaron Judge is not active for the Yankees. Judge worked out on the 28th but, ultimately, was not placed on the New York roster. Tim Hill was another notable Yankee left off, although the Yankees came into the round relatively deep with left-handed pitching.
Caleb Thielbar and Edward Cabrera are not active for the Cubs’ series in San Diego. Thielbar had a trying month entering the NL Wild Card Round. Cabrera was working as a reliever upon returning from the IL.

Free agency declarations
On September 29, several players outrighted from MLB 40-man rosters were able to declare free agency.
Those players were Alek Thomas (Dodgers), TJ Friedl (Reds), Sam Huff (Orioles), Nolan Jones (Mariners), Riley Adams (Nationals), Joey Meneses (Athletics), Zack Short (Mets), Jared Shuster (Cardinals), and Parker Mushinski (Rockies).
Other notes
The Braves selected Rowdy Tellez & Luke Williams from Triple-A. Atlanta designated pitcher Ricky Vanasco for assignment.
Pitcher Alexander Cornielle was designated for assignment by the Yankees.
The Cardinals claimed pitcher Chase Hampton off waivers from the Nationals.
