It was a busy Monday across Major League Baseball in terms of the volume of transactions made. Both the Cubs and Royals acquired relief help, while the Twins promoted a hot-hitting outfielder from Triple-A.

Cubs trade for reliever

The Cubs traded for reliever Yosver Zulueta from the Mariners, a deal that cost Chicago cash in the trade.

Seattle acquired the reliever, who pitched very well in Triple-A last year, in January 2026 from the Reds. However, he never pitched with the Mariners at the big-league level, as he walked 16 over 20 frames with Tacoma.

Zulueta was optioned to Triple-A after the move.

Seabold on move again

The Royals acquired Connor Seabold for Minor League reliever Denis Samudio.

It’s the second time in as many months that Seabold was traded, as Toronto acquired him last month in a separate deal. He gave up three earned runs over 3.1 IP.

Mets’ moves

The Mets made several moves on June 15. Aside from placing Christian Scott on the IL, and transferring Jorge Polanco — who’s been out for two months and is eligible to return when he’s ready — the Mets claimed Zack Short off waivers from the Tigers.

Short, from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, returns to the Mets’ organization. He was with the team for a brief stint in 2024.

Recalls & options

Jose Fermin (Angels), Kyle Hart (Padres), Tobias Myers (Mets), Jayden Murray (Astros), Jonathan Pintaro (Mets), Mitch Spence (Royals), and Luis Morales (Athletics) were recalled.

Eli Morgan (Royals), Steward Berroa (Phillies), Alimber Santa (Astros), Brady Basso (Athletics), Ryan Waldschmidt (D-Backs), Eiberson Castellano (Rockies), and Daniel Duarte (Mets) were optioned to Triple-A.

Contract selections

Minnesota selected outfielder Kyler Fedko from Triple-A St. Paul.

A former college standout at UConn, the former 12th-round pick hit 28 home runs last season between Double-A and Triple-A last season. This year, Fedko hit 15 home runs and 28 extra-base hits across 58 contests with the Saints.

The Angels promoted and selected the contract of pitcher Brett Kerry from Triple-A. Kerry struck out 59 over 62 innings and posted a 5.92 ERA in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Low-to-mid-90s fastball, along with a slider, curveball, changeup, cutter, and sweeper.

Other notes

Doug Nikhazy (Cubs), Drew Pomeranz (Angels), and Orlando Arcia (Twins) were designated for assignment.

The Mariners sent Domingo Gonzalez outright to Triple-A Tacoma. San Diego did the same with outfielder Bryce Johnson. Additionally, Braves catcher Austin Wynns was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett.
