We covered many of the big moves on Trade Deadline day across Major League Baseball. But there might have been some moves you missed. Here’s a breakdown of some of those, including Kris Bubic, Moises Ballesteros, and Marcelo Mayer all going out west.
Bubic to Los Angeles
Perhaps the big move of deadline day that went under the radar was Kris Bubic going to Los Angeles for reliever Carlos Duran.
Bubic was a 2025 AL All-Star who will be a pending free agent after the 2026 season. He struck out 51 over 50 innings when he was healthy this season. The problem is that he hasn’t been, as Bubic is currently on the 60-day IL.
That wasn’t the only move that the Dodgers made. In need of catchers, the club re-acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Mets for pitcher Chayce McDermott.
Former top prospects dealt
The Giants acquired former first-round pick Marcelo Mayer in a three-player trade with the Red Sox. Boston received big-league reliever, lefty Erik Miller, plus outfielder Carlos Gutierrez.
Mayer, a 2021 first-round pick, slashed .220/.282/.312 with three home runs and 13 extra-base hits for the Red Sox over 70 games this season.
Moises Ballesteros, a catcher/DH blocked on the Cubs’ depth chart, was traded to the Angels along with Mason McGwire for reliever Ryan Zeferjahn.
Other trades
- Welcome back to the Orioles, Michael Forret. Forret, sent to Tampa Bay in the Shane Baz deal, was traded for Tyler Wells.
- The Guardians acquired 1B/DH Nathaniel Lowe from the Reds for pitcher Alejandro Rivera and switch-hitting infielder Juan Brito. Brito, who made his MLB debut earlier in the year, was recently DFA’d by Cleveland.
- Arizona acquired outfielder Lars Nootbaar from the Cardinals. It’s a three-player return, which will include a PTBNL, pitcher Sandro Santana, and pitcher Daniel Eagen, the latter of whom is the headliner thanks to a power fastball/curve combo.
- Chicago (AL) acquired reliever Huascar Brazoban from the Mets for pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin.
- Veteran Kirby Yates was dealt to the Pirates from the Angels for Kyle Robinson.
- The Rays traded Hunter Feduccia and Jacob Kmatz to the Dodgers for ex-Pirate outfielder Jack Suwinski and other considerations. Feduccia was previously with the Dodgers, while Kmatz is a lefty who induces a lot of swing-and-miss.
- The Orioles acquired outfielder Christian Franklin from the Nationals for pitcher Joe Glassey
- Funky lefty Brent Suter was traded to the Braves by the Angels for infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr.
- Phillies pitcher Seth Johnson was traded to the Athletics for outfielder Colby Thomas.
- Braves catcher Joey Bart was traded to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Duncan Davitt.
- Hard-throwing reliever Victor Vodnik was sent from Colorado to Miami for sinkerballer Aiden May and infielder Connor Norby.
- The Marlins traded Braxton Garrett to the Cubs. In exchange, the Marlins received corner infielder Jonathon Long and Jace Beck, the latter of whom was one of the best strikeout pitchers in the Southern League.
- Rangers infielder Josh Smith was traded to Toronto along with Josh Stephan for reliever Adam Macko.
- The Twins parted with notable starting pitcher prospect Dasan Hill, plus John Klein and Dameury Pena for Blue Jays reliever Jeff Hoffman.
- Milwaukee sent recently-acquired reliever Codi Heuer to the Orioles for cash. The Brewers also acquired Antonio Senzatela.
- The Marlins sent Lake Bachar to Pittsburgh for Brandon Bidois, Brian Sanchez, and Hyun Seung Lee.
- Pirates pitcher Hunter Stratton was shipped to the Padres for Andrew Moore.
- The Cardinals acquired reliever Caleb Ferguson from the Reds for future considerations.
- Atlanta sent speedy outfielder Eli White to the Red Sox for starting pitcher prospect Tyler Uberstine.
