After Christopher Morel tore through Triple-A, the Mets will give the infielder another shot at big-league pitching. In other related news, former Met Starling Marte was one of several players designated for assignment on August 17.
Mets select Morel
Christopher Morel is back in the Majors, as the Mets selected his contract from Triple-A.
The Mets signed Morel back in June after Miami released the 27-year-old. Since the Mets signed him, Morel slashed .321/.382/716 with 12 home runs and 19 extra-base hits over 31 contests with Syracuse.
DFA’s
So is life in the Majors. Kent Emanuel was selected & called up to pitch for the Reds during the first game of the club’s doubleheader against the Cardinals. After the game, he was designated for assignment.
The Royals designated outfielder Starling Marte for assignment. Marte played in 59 games for the Royals this season, and he slashed .242/.298/.314 (.611 OPS) for Kansas City. He also stole just two bases, although Marte has slowed down in recent years on the basepaths.
Colorado designated pitcher Michael Lorenzen for assignment. Among starting pitchers with 75+ IP this season, Lorenzen’s 7.08 ERA was the second-highest in the Majors, behind only Athletics pitcher Jack Perkins.
Andrew Hoffmann (Diamondbacks), Johnathan Rodriguez (Pirates), Ron Marinaccio (Reds), and Gabriel Arias (Mets) were also DFA’d.
Recalls & options
Javier Assad (Cubs), Zach McCambley (Reds), Kevin Alcantara (Cubs), Quinn Mathews (Cardinals), Zach Maxwell (Reds), TJ Shook (Rockies), and Connor Thomas (Royals) were recalled.
Joe Boyle (Rays), Tyler Locklear (Diamondbacks), Geraldo Carrillo (Diamondbacks), Raymond Burgos (Red Sox), Jose Cuas (Royals), Hunter Barco (Pirates), James Triantos (Cubs), Josh Rojas (Royals), and Ronny Simon (Pirates) were optioned to the Minors.
Other notes
Toronto sent reliever Lazaro Estrada outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
The Red Sox selected pitcher Wyatt Olds from Triple-A.
Catcher Alex Jackson is back with the Twins, as the club selected him from Triple-A St. Paul.
The Cubs selected infielder Owen Miller from Triple-A Iowa.
Josh Fleming (Cubs) and Carlos Santana (Braves) were released. Both were in the Minor Leagues before the moves.
