Out of all the college baseball coaching changes made after the 2024 season, no change has been arguably as impactful as what Texas did.

A day after the Texas A&M Aggies lost Game 3 of the 2024 College World Series to Tennessee, head coach Jim Schlossnagle defected to join arguably the school’s biggest rival.

Schlossnagle agreed to join the Texas Longhorns as their head coach, reuniting with Chris Del Conte. The two had a relationship while Schlossnagle was the TCU head coach and Del Conte was the Horned Frogs’ athletic director.

The move proved more impactful than just Schlossnagle leaving, as the former Texas A&M took his pitching and hitting coach with the Aggies. Additionally, highly-touted 2025 recruit, Sam Cozart, changed his commitment from the Aggies to Texas following the announcement.

Schlossnagle replaced David Pierce, who Texas fired in late June. The Aggies have yet to announce a replacement.

Aside from the carousel in Austin and College Station, the South Carolina Gamecocks will also have a new head coach in 2025. Former LSU head coach Paul Mainieri, a 2009 National Champion, will replace Mark Kingston.

In the Big 10, Ohio State hired longtime Campbell head coach Justin Haire to assume control of the Buckeyes.

Ohio State’s former head coach, Bill Mosiello, resigned after two seasons with the Buckeyes. Mosiello joined the TCU Horned Frogs as an associate head coach under Kirk Saarloss. He returns to the role he had before joining Ohio State.

On June 28, Campbell announced Chris Marx would replace Haire. Marx was the lead assistant at Purdue but did work at Campbell with Justin Haire before he went to Purdue in 2020.

On June 10, Coastal Carolina named Kevin Schnall as the replacement for Gary Gilmore, who retired after a 29-year stint as head coach. Schnall was Coastal Carolina’s associate head coach in 2024.

Gilmore wasn’t the only notable head coach to retire after 2024. John Anderson (Minnesota) and Randy Mazey (West Virginia) also called it a career.
