As has become tradition, Major League Baseball usually announces the host city for All-Star Games roughly two years in advance. On August 1, 2025, the league confirmed the host city for the 2027 All-Star Game. And, it’s a venue that is very familiar with the Midsummer Classic, as the host stadium for the 2027 game has done so three times in its history.

Chicago named host city for 2027 All-Star Game

On August 1, Major League Baseball & the Cubs confirmed the Cubs will be the host team for the Midsummer Classic in 2027. It also means adjacent events, including the Home Run Derby, Futures Game, and the MLB Draft, will be held at Wrigley Field and the Chicagoland area.

The game is scheduled for July 13, 2027.

It’ll be the third consecutive year a National League team will host the game. In 2025, the Braves hosted the game. And in 2026, the Phillies will host the affair as part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

The last All-Star Game to be held at Wrigley Field was in 1990. That year, the American League defeated the National League 2-0. Julio Franco drove in the game’s only two runs and won the MVP.

Two Cubs started for the NL All-Stars, Hall of Famers Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg. Four Hall of Famers suited up for the American League as starters: Rickey Henderson, Cal Ripken Jr., Wade Boggs, and Ken Griffey Jr.

Additionally, it’s the first All-Star Game to be held in Chicago since 2003. That year, the game was held in U.S. Cellular Field (now Rate Field), home of the White Sox.

One hurdle to clear

However, there is one hurdle that must be cleared before July 2027: the upcoming end of the current MLB-MLBPA collective bargaining agreement.

The current CBA will expire at the end of the 2026 season.
