On February 4, Sony San Diego (SDS) released the first trailer for MLB The Show 25. It came one week after the cover announcement and gave baseball fans new insight on what’s to come for 2025. SDS didn’t confirm everything but included a look at new animations, features, and star-studded legends that’ll be included.
Among the new details included an anticipated look at the overhaul of Road to the Show (RTTS). The developement team stated that players will be able to craft their player to their liking with a “revamped” attribute progression system and the ability to craft perks.
It would mark a change from past years, where players were locked into set archetypes. However, it’s not exactly clear how this new system will work yet.
Additionally, RTTS will focus on the formative years of a baseball player. Three high school and four college games are included. The college games will feature select authentic NCAA schools, with UCLA, TCU, LSU, and Tennessee among the shown schools. SDS also confirmed authentic metal bat sounds will be in for the experience.
Gameplay-wise, the trailer touted “hundreds of new animations” that will be in the game. The gameplay portion also included a different home run rob meter and button accuracy throw meter. The latter turns green when thrown ideally.
MLB The Show 25 will also bring back the Negro Leagues for Season 3 of Storylines. Diamond Dynasty will also see the addition of ‘Diamond Quest,’ a board-like game mode. And, the Weekend Classic was also shown, which per the developers will be a highly-competitive game mode. On name, it would be on par with Weekend League found in EA Ultimate Team games.
Sony also confirmed the first two legends in MLB The Show 25: Manny Ramirez and Roger Clemens.
Ramirez was easily visible in the the trailer, even without the dreadlocks he sported in the 2000s. Clemens wasn’t, as the facescan didn’t exactly match in the trailer. However, the ‘Clemens’ name can be seen in the center field scoreboard of Fenway Park.
The next leak of information will be on February 11, with the gameplay deep dive. Make sure to keep checking out New Baseball Media for the latest on MLB The Show 25.
