After Major League Baseball returned to Iowa in 2026, the league announced that another regular-season game will be contested in that state during the 2027 campaign. Here’s what to know about the upcoming 2027 Field of Dreams game.
When & where will the 2027 Field of Dreams game be held?
Just like in 2026, the 2027 Field of Dreams event will be contested in Dyersville, Iowa. This will be the fourth time that the event will be played at the site of the iconic movie, following the 2021, 2022, and 2026 games. Another game, between the Giants & Cardinals, was played in Alabama back in 2024 under the banner.
The White Sox walked off the Yankees in the first-ever MLB game in Iowa back in 2021. One year later, the Reds played the Cubs. And in 2026, the event returned to Dyersville after construction squelched any chance of having a game at the site between 2023 and 2025. The Phillies defeated the Minnesota Twins.
The scheduled date, as of August 2026, is August 12, 2027, which could change for obvious reasons. One, the looming lockout between the league and the MLB Players Association. Two, weather.
Which teams will participate?
The Royals and the Red Sox are the two teams scheduled for the 2027 event.
It will be a Royals game and will be played on a Thursday. A scheduled day off will follow on August 13 before the series between the two teams resumes on April 14.
Neither team has played in a previous Field of Dreams event, which has been held in 2021, 2022, 2024 (Birmingham, Alabama), and 2026. However, it does keep in line with precedent to have a team from the Midwest participate.
Lastly, it should be noted that the 2027 installment of the game will be contested on NBC. The first three, including the one in Alabama, were on FOX. But in 2026, Netflix had the exclusive broadcast rights to the game.
