Yet again, Major League Baseball will hold Players Weekend 2026 in August. It’s an annual event designed to allow players to have a little bit more fun with the game, and even take some cues from the youths who play the game today. Here’s an explainer on what Players Weekend actually is, and when it will be held this year.

What is Players Weekend?

Players Weekend has been an off-and-on tradition held annually for the better part of a decade. Throughout the weekend, restrictions with respect to gear are somewhat relaxed.

As has been the case in past years, players have been able to wear gear with special messages written on it, and have also worn hats with their respective number and creative looks on them.

Additionally, players like Bryson Stott & Bryce Harper have also been known to get creative with the bats. Several Major Leaguers have used the special Victus “Pencil” bats that are well-known among the youth sports community.

When the event was first adopted in agreement between the league office and the MLB Players Association, special jerseys featuring player nicknames on the backs were also worn on a yearly basis. But MLB teams have not worn those in several years.

When is it?

MLB Players Weekend 2026 will be held from August 21-23, 2026.

Traditionally, Major League Baseball tends to hold this event in conjunction with the annual Little League Classic. That will be the case yet again in 2026, as this year’s Little League Classic will be held on the 23rd between the Atlanta Braves & Milwaukee Brewers in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

But as noted above, the pomp & circumstance — at least from the players’ perspective — won’t be limited to just that one game.
