It was an active last week of June across the Minor League landscape. A former White Sox first-round pick is back on track after a rough patch early on this season. Meanwhile, in Double-A, one top prospect left the circuit, while another entered. Here’s a look at what went down in Week 13 of the 2025 MiLB season.
Montgomery rolling in Triple-A
It’s been a turbulant past two seasons for Colson Montgomery. However, the White Sox shortstop has been in a groove as of late.
Montgomery led the International League in hits (11) and home runs (4) over the last week, as the 23-year-old hit .500/.522/1.227 (1.749 OPS) for Charlotte (AAA).
Yes, the former first-round pick’s overall numbers are still unsightly. As a whole, Montgomery is only hitting .217/.294/.425 (.719 OPS) on the 2025 season, with most of those numbers being at Triple-A. However, Montgomery’s been sharp this month.
He ended the month with the fourth-highest slugging percentage (.672) in the International League, behind only Rece Hinds (.683), Bob Seymour (.697), and Will Robertson (.760).
Given he’s currently on the Sox’s 40-man roster now, it’s not a stretch to think he could be in Chicago sometime this summer if he continues to hit at that level.
Stewart ends June on high note
Reds prospect Sal Stewart continued to impress this past week.
The 21-year-old picked up seven more hits — two of which were home runs — to cap off a strong month for the third baseman.
The former first-round pick tied ex-Major Leaguer Travis Blankenhorn for the most home runs (6) in the Southern League this month, while his 29 hits were tied with Hector Rodriguez for second-most.
Promotions & moves
It didn’t take long for Nationals prospect Travis Sykora to move up to Double-A.
Sykora, who has 76 strikeouts over 44.1 IP this season between three affiliates, was promoted from Wilmington (A+) to Harrisburg this past week. The 21-year-old, who didn’t pitch until May thanks to offseason hip surgery, struck out 32 for the Blue Rocks this month, third-most in the South Atlantic League behind Jose Gonzalez (TEX) and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (NYY).
However, he did struggle in his first Double-A action. Sykora walked five and gave up four runs over 3.2 IP against Akron on June 29.
Former first-round pick JD Dix, drafted 35th overall by Arizona last year, was promoted from the ACL to Low-A Visalia. Dix hit .342/.421/.493 (.914 OPS) with 17 extra-base hits over 39 games in the Arizona Complex League.
The Yankees, meanwhile, promoted Spencer Jones to Triple-A. Jones had a massive June with Somerset (AA), as he posted a 1.039 OPS, third-best in the Eastern League, and tied Roc Riggio for the circuit’s lead in home runs (7).
Jones hit two home runs in his first three games with the Railriders. However, he struck out six times, something to hone in on as he inches closer to The Bronx.
