With June wrapping up, it’s time to take a look at what went down in the Minors over the last full week of the month. It was a big one for two Penn State alumni, while Charlie Condon & Patrick Wisdom both had nice weeks at the plate.
14-RBI week for two infielders
What a run it has been for 23-year-old Jay Harry. Harry drove in 14 runs this week for the Buffalo Bisons, four ahead of Tyler Black for most in the International League. Plus, three home runs and seven extra-base hits across the six games he played for the Bisons this past week.
It’s been a complete-180 for Harry, a sixth-round pick from 2023 by the Twins. Sent to Toronto in 2024 by the Twins for Trevor Richards, Harry slashed .199/.284/.288 with just five home runs over 100 games last season.
But this year, Harry slashed .341/.377/.616 with 12 home runs and 35 extra-base hits over 62 games between Double-A and Triple-A. He had four home runs and 12 extra-base hits over his first 14 with the Jays’ Triple-A club.
And oddly enough, he wasn’t the only player in full-season ball to have a 14-RBI week. The other was Ryan Weingartner, an eighth-round pick by the Cardinals. And both also played at Penn State (the two didn’t play with each other, though, as Weingartner started with Saint Joseph’s).
Condon with a three-home-run week
Charlie Condon is creeping up the Pacific Coast League home run leaderboard. The Rockies’ 2024 first-rounder hit three more this week, which gave him 17 on the season. That tied him with Jack Suwinski for third in that league.
He’ll have to catch James Tibbs (21) and Patrick Wisdom (19), the latter of whom hit five this past week.
Nice week for A-ball pitchers
Yoel Tejada continued what’s been a good run for him this season. The former Florida State pitcher struck out 14 over 10.2 IP this week for High-A Wilmington, which raised his season strikeout total to 82 over 72.2 IP.
Another 2024 draft pick, Devin Futrell, struck out 12 over six scoreless innings for High-A Greenville in the Red Sox organization.
Yankees pitching prospect Franyer Herrera struck out eight over seven scoreless innings for Hudson Valley.
And, D-Backs pitcher prospect David Hagaman struck out eight over six scoreless innings for Hillsboro.
