Week 14 of the 2025 Minor League season was an action-packed one, to say the least. Between the Fourth of July, a perfect game, and numerous promotions, a lot occured. Here’s a look at what went down.

Triple-A prospects knocking on the door

The Cubs had two All-Stars in their outfield this season — and one could easily argue Seiya Suzuki, Chicago’s DH and occasional outfielder, should have joined them. However, their depth in the outfield doesn’t stop there.

Owen Caissie, acquired four years ago by the Cubs, is inching closer to the Majors. Caissie had a banner week with Iowa, as he slashed .476/.560/1.143 (1.703 OPS) with an International League-high 10 hits, and four home runs. Those four homers were tied for second in the circuit, alongside fellow Iowa Cub Jonathan Long.

The individual who finished first in that category was Carter Jensen, who hit five for Omaha (AAA) this past week. It was Jensen’s second week in Triple-A, and he’s already tied his home run output from Northwest Arkansas (AA this season.

Jensen has hit six home runs in Double-A and Triple-A to this point.

Promotions & moves

Three of the Tigers’ top prospects were promoted in unison this past weekend, as Josue Briceno, Max Clark, and Kevin McGonigle all received promotions from High-A West Michigan to Double-A Erie.

Clark and McGonigle, both of whom will go to the Futures Game, both tore up the Midwest League. The former led the circuit with 65 walks before his promotion, two more than Dodgers prospect Josue De Paula for the league lead. And, in his last 10 games, he batted .395 with two home runs.

McGonigle, meanwhile, picked up 15 hits over the last two weeks, part of a dominant span for the 2023 first-round pick.

Briceno, meanwhile, put up gaudy power numbers last season with Lakeland (A) and in the Arizona Fall League. The catcher/first baseman continued that momentum into 2025, as Briceno hit 15 home runs across 55 games with the Whitecaps. That figure led the Midwest League.

All three will join the Seawolves, postseason-bound after Erie won the first-half title in the Eastern League Southwest. Binghamton, the Mets’ Double-A affiliate that won the other first-half title in the Eastern League, received Jonathan Santucci and R.J. Gordon from Brooklyn (A+). Santucci was the Mets’ second-round pick last July.

Additionally, another Futures Game participant, JJ Wetherholt, moved one step closer to St. Louis. Wetherholt was promoted to Memphis (AAA) on July 8.

Futures Game rosters announced

As noted earlier, Major League Baseball announced the players who will participate in the 2025 Futures Game, which takes place on July 13 in Atlanta.

The rosters include several first-rounders from 2024, including Charlie Condon (Rockies), Wetherholt, Carson Benge (Mets), and Konnor Griffin (Pirates). Not to mention, several of the best international prospects in the game, including Sebastian Walcott (Rangers) and Jesus Made (Brewers).
