We’ve reached the start the June, as the second month of the 2025 Minor League season is in the books. This past week was defined by notable promotions, as well as scorching hot performances from star-studded prospects. Here’s a look at the best from Week 9 of the 2025 Minor League campaign.

Former first-round picks roll

The Tigers continue to see progress from 2023 first-round pick Kevin McGonigle. McGonigle, who didn’t debut until mid-May, went 13-22 with West Michigan (A+) over the last week, along with a home run and six walks.

McGonigle broke out last season and has continued the momentum into 2025. As a matter of fact, the 20-year-old is hitting .415 through his first two weeks of the year.

Also in High-A, Charlie Condon has begun to get it going. Like McGonigle, Condon started the year on the injured list. Over the last week, Condon hit .389/.542/.556 (1.098 OPS) with a home run.

The power-hitting Rockies prospect tied with five others for sixth in the Northwest League in hits (6) this past week, including 2023 Blue Jays first-rounder Arjun Nimmala. Condon, though, wasn’t the only Rockies bat to have a great week.

Looking at Triple-A

It was another good week for the high-end pitching prospects in the International League.

Blade Tidwell, who made his MLB debut earlier this season, struck out 11 batters over 5.1 IP in his lone start this week with Syracuse. Meanwhile, Ian Seymour added 10 more to his ledger, giving him 78 over 55 frames. The Rays’ lefty is five ahead of Jacob Misiorowski for the league lead as of this writing.

Offensively, former Major Leaguers dominated the week in the IL. Eddie Rosario (Rangers), MJ Melendez (Royals), and Andres Chaparro (Nationals) were among the five players who hit three home runs last week in the circuit.

Moving to the PCL, Ryan Ritter continues to tear it up in the hitter-friendly league. Ritter slashed .478/.536/1.130 (1.666 OPS) with four home runs and 12 RBI over the last week. That performance pushed the Rockies infielder to second in total home runs (16) this season in the circuit, behind only Shay Whitcomb (18).

The Kentucky product is putting himself in a position to get called up to Colorado at some point this season. Aside from the power numbers, Ritter walked 34 times over his first 51 games in Triple-A this season. He’s not hacking a ton at pitches out of the zone (24.8%), nor is he having significant problems with breaking balls (35.5% Whiff%).

Promotions & moves

I’d be remiss if I didn’t start with the “big” promotions — as in the players who were promoted to the Majors.

Arguably the most notable one will officially come on June 3, when Jac Caglianone is officially selected by the Royals. In the two weeks he spent in Omaha, Jac did nothing but assault Triple-A pitching. His six home runs led the International League, while his .723 SLG ranked fourth.

Additionally, there were two notable AL West prospects who moved up. Cole Young, the toolsy middle infielder, was moved up to Seattle after a torrid May and picked up the game-winning hit in his first MLB contest. Jacob Melton, who had a .879 OPS in Triple-A, was promoted on June 1.

Kade Morris, acquired by the Athletics in the Paul Blackburn trade, was promoted to Las Vegas (AAA). Morris was in command — literally — in Double-A, as the former third-round pick walked only 11 and struck out 48 over 51.2 IP.

The past week saw several players, including Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones and Cardinals pitcher Quinn Mathews, get activated from the IL.

• OF Bo Davidson (A+/SF): seven walks, eight hits over six games
• P Trey Gibson (A+/BAL): .100 opp. AVG, 13 K over six innings
• INF Welbyn Francisca (A/CLE): seven hits, one home run over five games
• OF Will Taylor (A/PIT): .462 AVG, 12 hits, two home runs over six games
• OF Kavares Tears (A/SD): 11 hits, two home runs over six games
