Even though the Yankees didn’t play on June 2, New York managed to still steal the headlines away on the injury front. Luke Weaver, the team’s closer, is reportedly headed to the injured list with a hamstring injury. But one team that received good news on the day was the Orioles, as Colton Cowser is ready to get into MLB action for the first time since March 30, 2025.

Cowser is back

One of the Orioles’ notable injured bats is officially back. Baltimore outfielder Colton Cowser, out with a thumb fracture, was activated off the injured list on June 2. The 25-year-old went 8-20 (.400) with a home run during his rehab assignment.

The Orioles, though, are still waiting on Jordan Westburg. Westburg, for those who remember, spent the last few days in Norfolk (AAA) alongside Cowser.

Weaver headed to IL

Yankees closer Luke Weaver will be unavailable for some time. ESPN reported Weaver suffered a hamstring strain on June 1, a game he ultimately did not enter. New York (AL) won that game 7-3.

The exact timetable is unknown yet, per the report. However, he’s expected to land on the injured list nonetheless.

Rehab assignments

Reds infielder Jeimer Candelario went 1-2 with an RBI for the ACL on June 2.

Emmet Sheehan (Dodgers) and Taylor Trammel (Astros) were assigned to their respective complex league affiliates for rehab assignments.

Sheehan last pitched on June 1 with Oklahoma City, as he struck out five over three scoreless innings.

Other injury news

Los Angeles (AL) placed Yoan Moncada (knee) and Robert Stephenson (biceps) on the injured list. Stephenson was placed retroactive to May 29.

Meanwhile, in Sacramento, Gunnar Hoglund (hip) and Miguel Andujar (oblique) were placed on the injured list.

Paul Blackburn (Mets), Romy Gonzalez (Red Sox), and Parker Meadows (Tigers) were activated from the IL.
