The MLB Home Run Derby is an annual competition that features several of the league’s top sluggers, as each looks to hit the most home runs in each round to come out on top. The 2023 MLB Home Run Derby will take place the night before the All-Star Game in Seattle, but which players will participate? Let’s take a look at what we know.

The 2023 MLB Home Run Derby Participants
Here’s a look at all the confirmed 2023 MLB Home Run Derby Participants:
- Pete Alonso
- Randy Arozarena
- Mookie Betts
- Adolis Garcia
- Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
- Luis Robert Jr.
- Julio Rodriguez
- Adley Rutschman
This will mark the second straight year that “J-Rod” will be involved in the annual event. Last year, he finished runner-up to then-Nationals OF Juan Soto in Los Angeles. And as for Guerrero Jr., he too nearly won this event four years ago. Then, there’s Pete Alonso, who will look to win the Home Run Derby for the third time in his career.
The 2023 Home Run Derby will feature four players that are in the top ten in MLB in home runs: Robert Jr., Alonso, Betts, and Garcia. It won’t, however, feature MLB home run leader Shohei Ohtani nor NL leader Matt Olson. Additionally, 2023 All-Star and reigning champion Juan Soto is not a participant.
Getting back to the M’s superstar, it makes sense for Rodriguez to participate given that he’s the hometown star. And should Rodriguez win it all in 2023, he wouldn’t be the first to take home the Home Run Derby crown in his home stadium. Bryce Harper won it all in DC back in 2018 when he was still a member of the Nationals. Former Reds infielder Todd Frazier also accomplished the feat, as he won it all in Cincinnati eight years ago.
