A Look at the 2024 MLB Field of Dreams Game
The San Francisco Chronicle reported in June 2023 that Major League Baseball will contest a Field of Dreams game in 2024.
MLB confirmed on June 20, 2023, that the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals will take part in the third installment of the event. It will take place on June 20, 2024, with St. Louis set to be the home team.
The 2024 MLB Field of Dreams is headed to Birmingham, Alabama, and Rickwood Field. Built in 1910, countless Hall of Famers like Stan Musial, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Ty Cobb all played in the stadium that was constructed much like Forbes Field in Pittsburgh.
Rickwood Field also hosted the Birmingham Black Barons, a Negro League team from the 1920s to 1960s where legendary Willie Mays started his career with.
This would mark the third time that Major League Baseball will host a Field of Dreams game, but the first not held in Iowa. The first two, held in 2021 and 2022, were played in Dyersville, Iowa.
The 2024 MLB Field of Dreams game will join a loaded slate of specialty games and series that will take place next season. Major League Baseball is set to contest games in South Korea, United Kingdom, Mexico, and another Little League Classic.
