Earlier in November 2023, Rawlings and Major League Baseball officially announced the winners of the American and National League Gold Glove winners. However, two major defensive awards still needed to be handed out. Those would be the Platinum Glove Awards, a “fan-centric” award where fans can vote for the two best defensive players in the Majors. Here’s a look at who were the MLB Platinum Glove award winners in 2023.

American League

Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez was the recipient of the 2023 AL Platinum Glove Award.

It was yet another strong season defensively for the Guardians infielder, who came over to Cleveland in the 2020-21 offseason in the Francisco Lindor trade. Gimenez finished second in putouts among second baseman, behind Marcus Semien.

Over 150 games, Gimenez made six errors and had a fielding percentage of .991.

Gimenez ranked third in the Majors in Statcast’s Outs Above Average metric at +18, behind Giants 2B Thairo Estrada (+19) and Cubs SS Dansby Swanson (+20).

National League

Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. won the NL Platinum Glove in 2023.

Tatis Jr. was a primary shortstop heading into 2023, but the now-Padres outfielder did spend some time in the outfield prior to the season. However, Tatis Jr. moved to the outfield full-time after the 2022-23 offseason signing of Xander Bogaerts.

Needless to say, the move to right field worked out for Tatis Jr.

Two seasons after the 24-year-old posted a +2 Outs Above Average at shortstop (0 OAA overall), Tatis Jr. had an OAA of +9 (+11 OAA at RF).

The two MLB Platinum Glove winners in 2023 also won Gold Gloves this season.
