After six months, we are at the end of both the 2023 MLB and fantasy baseball seasons. It’s the last chance to make a charge in roto leagues, but which sleepers are worth a look? Let’s take a look at our waiver wire target list for Week 25 of the 2023 fantasy baseball season.

Wilyer Abreu

We’ll start off with a deep sleeper in Red Sox OF Wilyer Abreu, who missed about a week with a hand injury before he returned on the 24th against the White Sox. In that affair, he hit 1-3 with a solo home run. That home run added to what’s been a strong start to Abreu’s MLB career. Through his first 65 plate appearances, Abreu hit .362 with a pair of home runs and 11 RBI.

With the Red Sox out of contention for a playoff spot, expect Abreu — who did accrue regular playing time before his injury — to be a regular for Boston over the last week.

Junior Caminero

The Rays are set to walk into the playoffs minus a number of notable names. Luke Raley is on the IL, while Brandon Lowe is likely to miss the remainder of the year due to a right kneecap fracture. Couple that with no Jose Siri and another injured infielder in Yandy Diaz, and Tampa may have some problems come next week.

Given those injuries, expect Junior Caminero to regular playing time. As we highlighted when Caminero was called up, the 20-year-old proved to be an incredible power hitter in the Minors. Through his first two MLB games, Caminero went 2-9 with a hit in each contest.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand

This past week was not kind to the Reds, but it was to infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand. Encarnacion-Strand belted his eleventh home run of the season on September 24, his third in four games and fifth in seven games. The former Oklahoma State product has hit .339 with six home runs and 13 RBI on the month.

Encarnacion-Strand will be a name to watch in fantasy come next spring. But for those who need a little bit of pop over the final week, the rookie’s hot streak shouldn’t be ignored.

Mitch Garver

Even though Mitch Garver missed almost two months of the 2023 campaign with a knee injury and narrowly avoided a foot injury in September, the year’s been a success for the veteran catcher. And recently, Garver’s been quite productive. The 32-year-old picked up a hit in each of his last four games, and four runs batted in that span.

This has been Garver’s best statistical season since 2019, when he belted 31 home runs for the Twins. Those in need of a catcher should look towards the slugger if he’s available.

Max Kepler

Before the start of the 2023 campaign, we highlighted five outfielders that could wind up being sleepers this year. Now, we didn’t hit on a few. However, two names that did prove to be solid names this year were Austin Hays and Max Kepler. The 30-year-old struggled at times in 2023, but proved to be a huge asset for the Twins in the second half. Kepler hit .295 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI after the All-Star break.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Twins deploy Kepler over the final week, as Minnesota punched their ticket to the playoffs this past weekend. Kepler did play on September 24, but didn’t one day earlier after the Twins locked up the AL Central. But for those in need of a bench bat or an extra outfielder in AL-only formats, Kepler’s a name to keep in mind over the final week.

As mentioned earlier, this is Week 25 of the 2023 fantasy baseball season and our last set of waiver wire target lists of the season. New Baseball Media would like to thank all who read our fantasy coverage this season.
