Now that the 2024 fantasy baseball and MLB seasons have arrived, it’s time to talk about injuries. Injured players can be stars for fantasy players who know when to pounce but it’s always helpful to know which players are hurt and when each is expected back. Here’s a 2024 fantasy baseball cheat sheet for injuries.

• SP/RP Drey Jameson (Tommy John) – will likely miss all of 2024
• SP Merrill Kelly (shoulder) – on 60-day IL with right shoulder strain
• RP Kyle Nelson (TOS) – out for remainder of 2024 due to Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery
• SS Geraldo Perdomo (knee) – out since early April due to meniscus tear
• SP Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) – yet to pitch in 2024, out with lat strain
• OF Alek Thomas (hamstring) – on IL with strained left hamstring, is live taking at-bats as of May 2024

Atlanta Braves

• RP Tyler Matzek (shoulder) – on IL with shoulder soreness
• C Sean Murphy (oblique) – on IL with left oblique strain, reportedly set for rehab assignment in late May
• 3B Austin Riley (intercostal) – taking ground balls as of May 2024
• SP Spencer Strider (Tommy John) – out for all of 2024

Baltimore Orioles

• RP Felix Bautista (Tommy John) – had surgery in September 2023, will not pitch in 2024
• SP Tyler Wells (elbow) – on IL with elbow inflammation

Boston Red Sox

• 1B Triston Casas (rib) – believes he’ll be ready in late June
• SP Lucas Giolito (elbow) – has partial UCL tear, could miss all of 2024. Will undergo elbow surgery.
• RP Liam Hendriks (Tommy John) – had surgery last summer, will likely miss at least most of 2024
• SS Trevor Story (shoulder) – underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in April
• SP Garrett Whitlock (elbow) – has UCL damage in right elbow, unknown whether he’ll need Tommy John surgery

Chicago Cubs

• RP Yency Almonte (shoulder) – on IL with shoulder injury
• RP Adbert Alzolay (forearm) – on IL with forearm strain
• RP Julian Merryweather (rib) – on 60-day IL with rib stress fracture
• SP/RP Drew Smyly (hip) – on IL with hip impingement
• RP Keegan Thompson (illness) – on IL due to illness
• SP Jordan Wicks (forearm) – on IL with forearm strain

Chicago White Sox

• RP Jimmy Lambert (shoulder) – on 60-day IL with rotator cuff strain
• INF Yoan Moncada (adductor) – on IL with left adductor strain, expected back after All-Star break
• OF Luis Robert Jr. (hip) – on IL with right hip strain, reportedly close to game action
• RP Jesse Scholtens (Tommy John) – out for all of 2024
• C Max Stassi (hip) – on 60-day IL with right hip inflammation

• RP Tejay Antone (elbow) – out until 2025 due to right elbow surgery

• OF Steven Kwan (hamstring) – on IL with acute left hamstring injury
• RP Eli Morgan (shoulder) – on IL with right shoulder inflammation
• RP Trevor Stephan (Tommy John) – will miss all of 2024
• SP Gavin Williams (elbow) – reported right elbow discomfort in March and began year on IL, began to ramp up in May

Colorado Rockies

• RP Daniel Bard (knee) – out for 2024 due to right elbow flexor tendon surgery recovery
• RP Jake Bird (elbow) – on IL with elbow inflammation
• SP Kyle Freeland (elbow) – on IL with left elbow strain
• SP German Marquez (Tommy John) – had surgery in spring 2023, could be ready midseason
• SP Antonio Senzatela (Tommy John) – had surgery in summer 2023, not expected to pitch this season

Nolan Jones and Kris Bryant are both on the IL but both are currently on rehab assignments.

Detroit Tigers

• SP Kenta Maeda (illness) – on rehab after missing time with viral illness
• RP Shelby Miller (elbow) – on IL with right elbow nerve inflammation

Houston Astros

• SP Luis Garcia (Tommy John) – began season on IL, could return midseason
• RP Kendall Graveman (shoulder) will miss all of 2024
• OF Chas McCormick (hamstring) – on rehab, expected back before start of June
• SP Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) – began season on IL, could return midseason
• RP Penn Murfee (elbow) – recovering from elbow surgery
• SP Jose Urquidy (forearm) – sustained right forearm strain in mid-March, could return in late May

Kansas City Royals

• SP Kris Bubic (elbow) – recovering from elbow surgery

• RP Brock Stewart (shoulder) – on IL with right shoulder tendinitis

New York Mets

• C Francisco Alvarez (thumb) – on IL with torn ligament in left thumb, timeline of six to eight weeks would put him on late-June return
• INF Ronny Mauricio (knee) – expected to miss all of 2024
• SP David Peterson (hip) – underwent labrum surgery in November, expected back within next few weeks
• RP Brooks Raley (Tommy John) – out for all of 2024
• SP Kodai Senga (shoulder) – began season on IL with moderate capsule strain in right shoulder, did not throw scheduled bullpen session in mid-May due to triceps tightness
• RP Drew Smith (shoulder) – on IL, return delayed to due “pinch” in back of shoulder

• SP Gerrit Cole (elbow) – shut down due to nerve inflammation in March, not ruling out June return
