Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for April 29 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):
- Steven Matz over 4.5 strikeouts (+100)
- Christian Walker over 1.5 H+R+RBI (-150)
It’s been nearly a full calendar year since Steven Matz last faced the Tigers. Back on May 7 of last year, Matz struck out just two batters but only gave up one run at home over 5.2 innings. Today, he’ll face Detroit in Comerica Park.
Matz struck out five or more batters in five of his last seven starts but has yet to accrue more than four in a single outing. He’s leaned more on his sinker this season, as he used it almost 60% of the time in 2024. However, he’s facing a Tigers team that whiffed more than 26% of the time.
As for our second pick, Christian Walker is batting .306 against left-handed pitching, an interesting number given that he’s facing James Paxton and the Dodgers. Firmly in the middle of the D-Backs lineup, it’s a good matchup on paper against a team Arizona had success with last October.
