Playoff season is in full swing across fantasy baseball. And, there are several hot hitters worth targeting for short-term value. Here’s a look at our best waiver wire targets in fantasy baseball as we approach Week 23 of the the 2025 campaign.
Best Week 23 hitters to target
- C Ivan Herrera (Cardinals)
- 3B/SS Colson Montgomery (White Sox)
- 2B/3B Jorge Polanco (Mariners)
- C Austin Wells (Yankees)
- SS Jacob Wilson (Athletics)
This past week was a good one for Jorge Polanco. Not only did his $8MM mutual option turn into a player option as he hit 450 plate appearances but the Mariners infielder had two multi-hit contests, had a hit in all but one game, and two home runs over the last week.
Over the last two weeks, Polanco hit .356 with five home runs and 11 RBI. When he’s healthy, Polanco can be highly valuable — and he’s proven that in 2025. Polanco’s 24 home runs this season are the most in a single season for him since his 33-home run campaign back in 2021.
We continue the theme of infielders with Colson Montgomery, who, like Polanco, has had good production over the last two weeks. Montgomery posted a three-home run week, one that saw him net eight runs batted in for the Sox.
The rookie infielder has been capable of this. Montgomery showcased ample power down in the Minors. And not only has he put himself on the radar for 2026 but also for the final weeks of 2025.
Jacob Wilson, meanwhile, returned from the IL in late August and picked up where he left off. This past week, Wilson had a pair of three-hit games.
Lastly, two catchers cap off this list.
Ivan Herrera has four home runs over his last two weeks, and 14 across the 2025 season. It’s an impressive number given he’s yet to reach 400 plate appearances this season.
Austin Wells, who has seen his fantasy value jump up and down this season thanks to Ben Rice, knocked in four and belted a home run in a relatively strong week.
Overview of Week 22
Lars Nootbaar may not be a big-name fantasy player. However, he does provide steady value when healthy. That was true this past week, as he picked up three runs scored and six hits.
Matt Wallner (.160 AVG, 11 K over seven games) didn’t hit well this week, and the same can be said for Andres Gimenez (.158 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0 SB). Josh Jung, meanwhile, only had four hits in what was a quieter week for the Rangers’ third baseman.
All in all, not a great Week 22. Although the likes of Gimenez, Nootbaar, and Jung are worth holding on to for depth/bench purposes.
