Thanks to the fact that we’re so close to the end of the season, it becomes more laborious to find impact fantasy baseball sleepers. Why? Well, injuries, playoff pushes, and other factors make it tricky to find ideal targets. With Week 23 of the 2025 fantasy baseball season, here’s a look at five pitchers who are in favorable spots heading into the week.
Best Week 23 pitchers to target
- RP Shawn Armstrong (Rangers)
- SP Ryan Bergert (Padres)
- SP Adrian Houser (Rays)
- SP Emmet Sheehan (Dodgers)
- SP Jose Soriano (Angels)
We’ll start with Ryan Bergert, who is on track for two starts this week, one in Cleveland and one in Philadelphia. Neither are elite matchups for Bergert. However, the rookie right-hander has been one of the more underrated pitchers over the last five weeks.
Bergert picked up five or more strikeouts in four of his last six starts, and didn’t allow two or more earned runs in any of those outings.
It also helps that Bergert is one of the few highly-available two-start starters this week.
Next up is Adrian Houser, who’s scheduled to face his former team, the White Sox, this coming week. Houser pitched extremely well with Chicago this past season, as the ground-ball-heavy pitcher posted a 2.10 ERA for the Sox this season.
Emmet Sheehan will get German Marquez and the Rockies on September 9. With the Dodgers facing a team that sat at 103 losses as of September 8, it’s about as soft a matchup as you can get this late in the season.
Lastly, for the starters, Jose Soriano will face the Twins on September 10. As of September 8, the Twins sat 19th in the Majors in OPS (.714) for the month.
The lone reliever who’s on the Week 23 list is Rangers pitcher Shawn Armstrong. Armstrong picked up three saves for the Rangers, a team that’s cycled through several arms late in games this season, over the last two weeks.
Overview of Week 22
Week 22 wasn’t the best week, in terms of the picks and how each did over the last seven days.
Kyle Bradish struck out five against the Padres but only went four innings. He’s worth holding this week, as he’s tentatively scheduled to face the Pirates on September 9.
The same hold sentiment can be said for Jonah Tong, who struck out six over six innings against the Reds on September 6. Tong conceded three home runs in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark.
Ian Seymour didn’t start a game this week but did pitch in a bulk role against the Guardians this past week. Seymour struck out five over four innings but gave up five hits despite only allowing one run.
