The Astros have been dealt a tough hand this season, despite being in first place in the AL West. Now, Houston has to deal with another injury to their rotation, plus an extended absence for Isaac Paredes. Additionally, the Rays will be without Brandon Lowe until at least July 30.
Lowe hits IL again
After just a few days off the injured list, Brandon Lowe is back on it.
Lowe, who was activated after the break, was placed on the IL with left ankle/foot tendinitis.
The Rays second baseman missed the All-Star Game with oblique tightness.
McCullers Jr. back on IL
Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. landed on the injured list for the second time this season, this time with a right finger blister. It’s retroactive to July 20.
The team stated the blister flared up this past weekend, and it was something McCullers Jr. had been dealing with for a bit, per manager Joe Espada.
McCullers Jr. was on the IL last month thanks to a foot sprain.
Additionally, Isaac Paredes is dealing with a significant hamstring strain, per the team. Paredes suffered the strain this past weekend.
Phillies lose Ross
Philadelphia placed Joe Ross on the injured list with back spasms. The move is retroactive to July 21, 2025.
Rehab assignments
Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman went 1-3 with a walk on July 22 as the designated hitter for Norfolk (AAA).
Kerry Carpenter went 1-4 with a strikeout for Toledo (AAA).
Shane Bieber struck out four over three innings for Lake County (A+). Bieber tossed 43 pitches in the outing.
Other injury news
The Dodgers placed reliever Tanner Scott on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation.
Max Muncy and Denzel Clarke of the Athletics were both placed on the injured list. Clarke, as noted on the 21st, is dealing with an adductor strain, while Muncy hit the list with a right hand fracture.
Miami placed outfielder Derek Hill on the 10-day IL with a left middle finger strain.
The Rays placed pitcher Manuel Rodriguez on the 60-day IL with a forearm strain.
Washington shifted outfielder Dylan Crews to the 60-day IL. It’s a procedural move, as Crews has been on the IL since May 21 with an oblique strain.
Mets outfielder Starling Marte was activated off the IL.
