Before the Dodgers start their series with the Marlins on September 11, the club will officially place Shohei Ohtani on the injured list. That is one of several notable injury notes from the 10th.
Ohtani going to IL
Late on September 9, after the Dodgers’ game against the Reds, manager Dave Roberts indicated that Shohei Ohtani is going on the IL. It will be a 15-day stint, as Ohtani is considered a two-way player.
Ohtani last played a game on September 7, meaning the IL stint can be backdated. Nonetheless, he won’t be available until the final week of the regular season.
IL moves
As expected, the Yankees placed infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day IL with a right thumb sprain. He’s expected to be shut down from baseball activities for at least a week.
Pirates pitcher Braxon Ashcraft was placed on the 15-day IL with right arm discomfort.
Rehab assignments
Shea Langeliers is back, as the Athletics catcher began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas. He ripped a double in his second at-bat.
Rangers third baseman Josh Jung went 0-for-2 with a strikeout for Triple-A Round Rock.
Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Omaha.
Astros outfielder Brice Matthews went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Sugar Land.
Other notes
Pirates outfielder Brandon Marsh left against the Astros with a bruised foot. Marsh fouled a ball off his foot in the eighth inning.
Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is expected to return on September 11, per Arizona Sports Radio. Carroll underwent an MRI, which showed nothing wrong with his back.
