While it was a good day on the field for the Milwaukee Brewers, the team announced some tough news on Opening Day. Jackson Chourio will miss the first few weeks of the 2026 campaign after he suffered a hairline hand fracture earlier this month.

Chourio to miss time

The Brewers placed outfielder Jackson Chourio on the 10-day IL on the 26th, retroactive to March 25. It was due to a left-hand fracture.

Chourio sustained the injury while he was with Team Venezuela for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. For those who remember, Chourio suffered what was called a wrist bruise during an exhibition game against the Nationals and didn’t play a couple of days later against the Netherlands.

An MRI revealed a hairline fracture at the base of his third metacarpal (h/t Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

To replace him on the roster, outfielder Blake Perkins was recalled by the Brewers.

Holliday cleared for rehab assignment

The Orioles have cleared Jackson Holliday to begin a rehab assignment. He will start in Triple-A Norfolk when the Tides’ season begins on March 27.

Holliday suffered a hamate bone fracture in February, and he was one of several players to do so when Spring Training started up last month. Unlike Corbin Carroll and Francisco Lindor, Holliday was not able to play in any spring games and start the year with the big club.

However, he’s close.

Rockies lose another starter

Rockies pitcher McCade Brown was placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to March 25. Brown is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.

The right-hander, who had a breakout year in the Minors and made his MLB debut late last summer, did not pitch in the Cactus League in 2026. He was working his way back as of late March, and threw a bullpen session last week (h/t MLB.com)

Other news

Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee was removed from his start against the Mariners in the sixth inning after a visit from a trainer and manager to the mound.

The Diamondbacks scratched Pavin Smith from the team’s Opening Day lineup thanks to left elbow soreness.

Astros general manager Dana Brown stated that Josh Hader will start to face hitters around mid-April (h/t MLB.com).

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins noted that Shane Bieber will throw off a mound this week. The same can be said for Jose Berrios. Both Bieber and Berrios are currently on the injured list.
