Freak, non-playing injuries happen from time to time. And that was indeed the case for Matthew Boyd, who will miss significant time after he suffered a meniscus injury innocently. As for the injury-depeleted Astros, Houston will now be without Carlos Correa for the rest of the year.

Correa done for 2026

Astros infielder Carlos Correa told the media that he’ll require surgery to repair a tendon in his left ankle. The procedure will keep him out for the rest of 2026.

Correa indicated that the injury happened on May 5, when he was a late scratch from the Houston lineup. The veteran infielder was taking swings in a batting cage when he felt a pop in his ankle.

It should be noted that Correa has had suspected health concerns with his right ankle, which led to him having a deal with the Mets being killed thanks to a failed physical. However, this is the other ankle.

Ragans dealing with triceps injury

Royals left-hander Cole Ragans had to leave another start early on May 6, this time thanks to what was called triceps/elbow soreness. Ragans was removed after three scoreless innings.

It’s been one of those years for Ragans, who also had to leave a start against Cleveland last month due to thumb soreness.

Boyd suffered meniscus injury

Left-hander Matthew Boyd suffered a knee injury while playing with his kids, and it’ll keep him out for a while.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell stated that Boyd will require surgery, and the team will have a better idea of when he may come back once the procedure is done. Boyd was placed on the IL on the 6th.

IL moves

Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres was placed on the injured list with an oblique injury.

Reds reliever Emilio Pagan officially landed on the IL with a shoulder strain.

Additionally, Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson (shoulder fatigue) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Rehab assignments

Pirates pitcher Jared Jones struck out two over three innings (54 pitches) with Triple-A Indianapolis. Jones hit as high as 100 MPH and averaged 99 MPH.

Red Sox pitcher Justin Slaten struck out two over one scoreless inning for Triple-A Worcester.

Royals reliever Carlos Estevez did not make it through his rehab performance with Triple-A Omaha. He was removed due to shoulder discomfort (h/t MLB.com).

Other notes

Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow (back spasms) was removed early from his start against the Astros.

Roman Anthony (wrist) and Luis Arraez (thumb) did not start for their respective teams.

The Yankees didn’t have Ben Rice (hand) on the 6th. Additionally, Ryan Weathers (illness) was scratched from his scheduled start on May 7.
