It’s been a tough season for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has played banged up for most of the year. Unfortunately for the veteran first baseman, he took an inadvertent blow to the head on August 14, which prompted an early removal in Toronto’s game against the Yankees.
Guerrero Jr. exits after collision
Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. collided with George Lombard Jr. at third base, as the latter’s leg hit Guerrero Jr. on an attempt to field a throw. Guerrero Jr. scored after the ball went wide of Lombard Jr. However, the Jays infielder was seen grimacing after he crossed home plate.
Guerrero Jr. was removed. Per manager John Schneider, Guerrero Jr. is in concussion protocol.
Marte removed due to knee injury
Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was pulled from his club’s game against the Braves on August 14 after one inning.
Marte was removed due to left knee soreness.
IL moves
White Sox pitcher Davis Martin, who was ejected on August 13 after hitting Sal Stewart, was placed on the injured list with a right middle finger blister.
Mariners rookie infielder Colt Emerson was placed on the IL with left wrist tendon inflammation.
Brewers reliever Abner Uribe was placed on the injured list with a right forearm flexor strain.
Rehab assignments
Astros pitcher Mike Burrows struck out three over 4.1 scoreless innings (67 pitches) for Triple-A Sugar Land. Burrows averaged 96 MPH and topped out at 97 MPH.
Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow struck out eight over 3.2 scoreless innings (67 pitches) for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Glasnow averaged 96 MPH and topped out at 98 MPH.
Rockies reliever Jaden Hill tossed a scoreless inning for Triple-A Albuquerque.
Reds pitcher Tony Santillan struck out two over one inning for Triple-A Louisville.
Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick hit a home run for Triple-A Nashville.
Phillies catcher Rafael Marchan went 1-for-2 with a strikeout for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz went 0-for-4 with a strikeout for Double-A Altoona.
Other notes
Pirates infielder Nick Gonzales was pulled after he was hit in the head with a fastball from Jovani Moran.
Giants shortstop Willy Adames (back) was held out on the 14th, as were Salvador Perez (elbow), Taylor Ward (quad), and Brice Turang (knee).
