It wasn’t the best day for the Brewers in terms of injuries — but it thankfully wasn’t that bad. Milwaukee lost Brandon Woodruff to the IL thanks to a shoulder injury. Jacob Misiorowski also had to leave his start early on May 1, one day after Woodruff did. Thankfully, the 2025 All-Star was dealing with a cramp.

Miz leaves early

Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski struck out eight over 5.1 no-hit innings on the 1st. However, he had to exit early thanks to a hamstring cramp.

Misiorowski indicated after the game that he felt it late in his pre-inning warmup and then dealt with it during the first at-bat in the sixth inning. Then, it flared up even more after a pitch to James Wood before his exit.

He also stated that he believed it would be best not to push through the injury.

Hoerner exits early

The day also saw Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner make an early exit after he went 1-1 with a run scored but left and was replaced by Matt Shaw.

Hoerner left with left-sided neck tightness, per the team.

IL placements

Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff was placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation. That diagnosis came one day after Woodruff exited his start against the D-Backs early in the second inning.

Ryan Helsley, meanwhile, is on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. Manager Craig Albernaz stated that Helsley had been dealing with discomfort for a week. The good news is that imaging didn’t show any structural damage (h/t Baltimore Sun).

Mariners reliever Matt Brash landed on the injured list with right lat inflammation.

Rehab assignments

Cubs pitcher Daniel Palencia struck out one and allowed one hit over 0.2 IP with Triple-A Iowa. Palencia threw as hard as 102 MPH and averaged 100 MPH on his four-seamer.

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe went 0-3 with two walks and a strikeout for Triple-A Somerset.

Gavin Lux went 1-4 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Durham.

Other notes

Brandon Nimmo left the Rangers’ game on May 1 after his right hamstring flared up again. Nimmo had to exit two days earlier with hamstring tightness.

Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh suffered a bruised right elbow on the 1st against the Marlins.

Rays pitcher Ryan Pepiot will need hip surgery and miss the rest of the 2026 season. Additionally, Yandy Diaz is day-to-day with oblique tightness, per manager Kevin Cash.

Angels pitcher Walbert Urena left his start against the Mets after he took a liner from Bo Bichette that struck a leg.
