It was a tough day for shortstops, as Bobby Witt Jr. and Trea Turner were both removed from their respective games on June 18. And, unfortunately, Mike Trout is back on the injured list thanks to a hamstring injury.

Witt Jr. leaves game

The big news on the day came out of Kansas City, as Bobby Witt Jr. was removed against the Cardinals due to right knee discomfort.

Manager Matt Quatraro stated after the game that Witt Jr. will undergo additional testing for his knee.

Turner dealing with bruised calf

Yet again, Trea Turner was removed from a game due to a hit by a pitch. But this time, Turner was hit on the calf early on in the Mets/Phillies game, which prompted his removal.

Turner was diagnosed with a bruised right calf.

Surgeries

The Phillies announced that Adolis Garcia will undergo season-ending lat surgery next week. Garcia is expected to be out six to eight months, ending his 2026 campaign.

Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester will undergo thoracic outlet compression surgery, which will end his season.

Trout, Pereira land on IL

The Angels placed Mike Trout on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

White Sox outfielder Everson Pereira was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

Rehab assignments

Reds pitcher Hunter Greene struck out six over four scoreless innings for the team’s ACL affiliate.

Mets shortstop Ronny Mauricio went 1-3 with a run scored for Low-A St. Lucie.

Orioles outfielder Dylan Beavers went 0-1 with two walks for Double-A Chesapeake.

Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak went 0-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Albuquerque.

Other notes

Francisco Lindor (calf) will start a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton beginning on the 19th.

Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (hamstring cramps) did not play on the 18th, one day after he was removed with the aforementioned injury on the 17th.
