It was not a great day for AL Central shortstops, as Bobby Witt Jr. and Colson Montgomery both left their respective games. Plus, a (sort-of) update on Giancarlo Stanton, who has been on the injured list since April.

Witt Jr. pulled

Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was pulled from the club’s game on July 20 in the fifth inning with back tightness.

This is the same issue that kept Witt Jr. out of the lineup on the 19th against the Padres.

Montgomery removed

White Sox infielder Colson Montgomery was removed against the Rangers with a shin bruise.

The injury happened in the seventh inning when Montgomery fouled an inside slider off his shin.

No timeline for Stanton’s return

Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that there is currently no timeline for Stanton to start a rehab assignment.

Stanton began a running program per the club earlier this month.

IL moves

Marlins pitcher Max Meyer went on the 15-day IL with a neck strain.

Cubs reliever Phil Maton is back on the IL, as he was placed on the 15-day IL with right knee tendinitis.

Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman was placed on the injured list with left wrist inflammation.

Padres outfielder Miguel Andujar was placed on the 10-day IL with a right wrist fracture.

Rehab assignment

Rangers utilityman Cody Freeman went 0-2 with the team’s ACL affiliate.

Other notes

Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (undisclosed) was removed early on the 20th.

Corbin Carroll (elbow), Samuel Basallo (shoulder), and Otto Lopez (finger) were all out on the 20th.
