The past two seasons have not been kind to Cole Ragans, who’s been on the IL multiple times. And now, Ragans will have another hurdle to climb metaphorically, as the Royals’ ace will undergo surgery this upcoming week to resolve an elbow injury.

Ragans requires surgery

Royals pitcher Cole Ragans is set to undergo surgery on July 1.

Ragans has been on the IL since May, shortly after he was removed from a start with what was described at the time as elbow/triceps soreness. Ultimately, he was diagnosed with an elbow impingement.

However, it is not known what kind of surgery he will have at this point (h/t MLB.com).

Trout working out

Mike Trout, on the IL with a hamstring strain, has slowly begun to ramp up.

Trout took 30 swings on June 27, although none were against live pitching. Additionally, he ran at about 50% (h/t OC Register).

IL moves

The Blue Jays placed outfielder Jesus Sanchez on the 10-day IL with an ankle sprain.

Cubs reliever Hoby Milner was placed on the 15-day IL with appendicitis.

Rehab assignments

Padres INF Jake Cronenworth went 1-4 with a strikeout and a run scored for Triple-A El Paso.

Astros infielder Nick Allen went 0-4 with a run scored for Triple-A Sugar Land.

Mets infielder Jorge Polanco went 0-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Syracuse.

Pirates pitcher Wilber Dotel struck out one over a scoreless inning for Double-A Altoona.

Nationals reliever Max Kranick struck out one in one inning for Double-A Harrisburg.

Rays outfielder Jake Fraley went 0-3 for the team’s FCL affiliate.

Other notes

Athletics infielder Jacob Wilson (shoulder) did not start on June 27.

Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham is expected to return next week, per manager Aaron Boone.

Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford was scratched with lat tightness.
