More bullpen help is coming to Houston, as potent pitching prospect Miguel Ullola was promoted to the big leagues on June 28. Additionally, another veteran is set to join the Braves’ organization.
Astros recall Ullola, option Teng
The Astros promoted pitcher Miguel Ullola to the Majors. Ullola will make his MLB debut whenever he first pitches for Houston.
Ullola, now 24 years of age, put up some impressive numbers in the Pacific Coast League last season, thanks in large part to his fastball that generated a lot of swing-and-miss. However, his big issue was command, as he walked 78 over 113 innings last year.
After Ullola averaged almost a walk per inning over the first two months, he was shifted into a short-relief role. Exclusively as a reliever, Ullola, who ran his fastball up to 98 MPH this season, struck out 15 over nine frames with Sugar Land.
Additionally, the Astros optioned Kai-Wei Teng to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Braves sign Santana
Per ESPN, the Braves signed 1B Carlos Santana to a Minor League deal.
Santana, who missed most of 2026 due to injury, did not do well in a brief time with Arizona this season. He was ultimately DFA’d and released in June.
Recalls & options
The Reds recalled TJ Friedl, who was sent to Triple-A Louisville several weeks ago after a cold start to 2026. Additionally, Trevor Martin (Rays) and Jordan Wicks (Cubs) were recalled, as well.
Petey Halpin (Guardians), Jeremiah Jackson (Orioles), Michael Grove (Rays), Enmanuel De Jesus (Tigers), and Jordan Beck (Rockies) were optioned to the Minors.
Other notes
Buddy Kennedy (Giants), Vince Velasquez (Cubs), and Sam Huff (Orioles) were designated for assignment.
To recap some other news from the 27th:
- The Angels signed Sammy Peralta to a Minor League deal.
- Toronto traded pitcher Hayden Juenger to the A’s for Minor League catcher Owen Carapellotti.
